Second-Order Perturbation Theory-Based Digital Predistortion for Fiber Nonlinearity Compensation

The first-order (FO) perturbation theory-based nonlinearity compensation (PB-NLC) technique has been widely investigated to combat the detrimental effects of intra-channel Kerr in polarization-multiplexed (Pol-Mux) optical fiber communication systems. However, NLC performance FO-PB-NLC is significantly limited highly nonlinear regimes Pol-Mux long-haul transmission In this paper, we extend FO theory second-order (SO) improve performance. This referred as SO-PB-NLC. A detailed theoretical analysis performed derive SO perturbative field for a system. Following that, investigate few simplifying assumptions reduce implementation complexity SO-PB-NLC technique. numerical simulations single-channel system show that provides an improved bit-error-rate and increases reach, comparison with demonstrates proposed reduced computational when compared digital back-propagation one step per span.
